Our mission is to inspire and introduce people to the gift of self-understanding through reading, fostering a community that values self-discovery and lifelong education. Books are powerful tools for personal growth, opening doors to new perspectives and deeper self-awareness—and we’re committed to making that accessible to everyone.
To live out this mission, we dedicate a portion of our proceeds to supporting reading and literacy programs. That’s why we’ve partnered with Reading Is Fundamental (RIF)—the nation’s leading children’s literacy nonprofit—to inspire a joy of reading in kids across the country. Together, we aim to provide books and resources to children in underserved communities, opening doors to opportunity and lifelong success.
The Literacy Crisis
Reading is a fundamental building block for success, yet the U.S. faces a literacy crisis:
- 34% of children entering Kindergarten lack the basic skills needed to learn how to read.
- 67% of 4th graders read below grade level, contributing to 8,000 students dropping out of high school every day.
- Only 37% of students graduate high school at or above reading proficiency.
- 2.5 million children are in districts with no libraries.
- 90% of educators say their book collections aren’t diverse enough.
- There is only 1 book for every 200 children in low-income neighborhoods.
